“You often read articles like this and think, “ah, that’s a shame…” This time, though, I thought maybe I could do something about it.”
That’s what our colleague Me Jean-Maxim LeBrun thought when he heard about a sad story in which the court and the law sided with a sexual assailant, ordering the mother of the child born of the assault to submit the child to a genetic test to prove the sexual offender’s paternity.
Me LeBrun then approached Daphné Duval, a family law specialist, to help the victim pro bono. Isabelle Hachey, from La Presse, writes a column today to highlight the exceptional work of our colleagues and the victory of Océane and other Québec women who won’t have to face the same legislation.
